Ratings & Reviews of Butterfly Bike & Beach Rentals
  1. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE & PRODUCT
We walked to the Santa Rosa store only to find it closed. After calling the posted number for the other store the owner said he could accommodate my order (3 bikes, a kayak and an adult and child life vest)over the phone and have it delivered. When the merchandise arrived some one bike was defective and they forgot the child's vest. My attempts to correct the situation were met with extremely long waits. When I asked him to split the fee with me and arrange to pick up the items he laughed saying he had a copy of my credit card then proceeded to curse and me and hang up. Wish I had read these postings before I rented! (Vacation Lady, 09/10/2009)

  2. BEWARE!!!
I have owned property on 30-A for 19 years. We have used Butterfly 3-4 times in the past and it has never been a great experience, but this last time was the worst. We rented 2 bikes and on the last night of our rental one of the locked up bikes was stolen. We went to the police officer that works night detail to file a report, however, we realized that Butterfly didn't give us a copy of our contract (said they don't have a copier, really???, a business doesn't have a copier) so we waited until morning to go see them. I assumed that once we filed the report they would file insurance. No, they are charging us for the bike and not even charging their cost for the bike, but FULL RETAIL. So they make quite a good chunk of money when a bike is stolen. Not only that , but unprofessional and extremely rude. I am curious to find out what their rate of stolen bikes is compared to other bike rental businesses in the area. The management company in my building tells people never to rent from Butterfly (found that out too late) they have a reputation of picking up their bikes and then charging customers for "stolen" bikes. 3. My dealling with them have always been good.
I've rented bikes from Butterfly on three occassions and each time my service has been very good...the guy does require cash for rental...but he has delivered and picked up the bikes each time...it is a family run business but I find they treat me right....Cecil Cheves (Cecil Cheves, 07/29/2009)

  4. Wish I could use a 0 star
this is the most miserable excuse for a reputable business I have ever used. They need to keep their kids at home. The guy that run it is so hyper and very rude. I don't need to spend my money at a place like this! Never again! (Sherry D, 06/30/2009)

  5. Renters Beware!!!
This rental company is the most dishonest, unorganized, and unprofessional company I have ever experienced. We rented a kayak for one day. We tried to arrange the return of the kayak but they would never come and get it, telling us they were running behind and to hold on to it...a fact they later denied. We called several times and have phone records to prove it but the man in the shop said we did not call and that we were liars. He then stated he tried to call us and they came to pick up the kayak but we were not there nor was the kayak. We cannot meet them anywhere if we do not know where and when to go. This man is rude and hateful. The company does not tag their boats or cross reference any serial numbers on the invoice/receipt to keep track of who rents specific items. I do not recommend them and suggest renters find another rental company that tags their property and provides appropriate rental paperwork. STAY AWAY!! (amymclew, 06/24/2009)

  6. BAD BAD PEOPLE!!!!
We rented a kayak for 24 hours, were never given a copy of the contract, never given a receipt and the person who delivered the boat rubbed a pencil over the card to get name and numbers. When the boat was not picked up after 24 hours we called and called, went by the shop (it was locked up) and did everything in our power to return it. Over night the second night (well after 24 hour rental period) the boat was stolen. With no record of which boat was rented to us and no record of inventory we were charged $900 for the lost boat. Everything about this business screams SKETCH!!! Get all info up front on pick-up procedure and get it in writing!!! I wish I could give no stars or negative rating however this site makes you give at least one. (ashley4274, 06/24/2009)

  7. Dishonest business. Save yourself a lot of trouble and go somewhere else.
The guy that worked there accused members of my group of stealing bikes. We returned the bikes, but weren't given any proof since you pre-pay. He called the cops before even looking in his inventory. It Screams SCAM. The owner is the guy on the front of their pamphlet. The business next door said this has happened before. He's trying to get $600 per bike (he says we stole four) from us. I was nice to the guy and said I wanted to help him find his bikes if something had gone wrong somehow, but he just freaked out on me. I honestly think he had this in mind from the start, looking back on the situation. If it wasn't outright deception, it could have been because of the way he's running his business. He doesn't check the bikes in like he should. It really is a mess. His two small kids were running around, half naked and trying to hang on everyone that came through the door. The poor little girl had made a mess in her panties and the guy wouldn't even take care of her. I actually heard him on a call about one of his former employees (who's brother had called) and he was just as ugly about that situation. Strange. Obviously they have serious problems that they don't want to fix. Of course it's really the consumer's problem, since their mistakes make them $600 per bike. Also, the law won't back you up unless you have some proof you returned the bikes. Butterfly doesn't give you any proof. They just say "We got it" and later call you a liar. I guess you could make him sign something? That or you could take pictures. I'm sure he would create lies to get out of that as well. Best option is to stay away, since O'Riley prob. won't be interested in this pinhead! (judahsong09, 06/18/2009)
