Get it in WRITING
We lived at Turtle Lake for 18 months. We had numerous "issues" while there and most were taken care of - not necessarily without a couple of requests though. HOWEVER, the mold is horrible and their solution to the mold was to put something on a rag and wipe it off. No attempt to find THE SOURCE of the mold and stop it. (the whole wall from top floor to fireplace was leaked onto which is what caused the mold!) The floor was rotted in the master bedroom. We asked about it for 3 months and then the last time I mentioned it, the apt manager YELLED from her office "They will have to move out if they want the floor fixed!" Well, who wants to move for 1 month' Also, everytime it rains - the front sidewalk is UNDER WATER. If you complain enough, they'll pump it - we bought bricks and used them as stepping stones! We were in bldg V. The building next door actually FLOODS during any heavy rain.
Anyway, when we gave notice in June (moving out July 31) I was told that our early termination fee would be our deposit. (which was $915!) Our lease was to be up in November. We cleaned the apartment extremely well with the exception of the refrigerator and ceiling fan. (oh and WE BOUGHT and INSTALLED a ceiling fan for the master bedroom and left it for them - you are most welcome Turtle Lake!) We were told that the cleaning fee for those 2 things would probably be $50 and we would receive a final bill within 6 weeks. We never heard from them and ASSUMED that they decided to waive the fee since they got a free fan and everything else was cleaned so well. We had our final inspection on July 28, 2009. On Saturday NOVEMBER 7, 2009 we got a CERTIFIED letter saying that our account was being sent to COLLECTIONS. HELLO - we never heard from you' You had our phone number. I called and of course they denied telling me about the early termination fee, etc, and that it HAD BEEN SENT TO COLLECTIONS already!! I am furious to say the least. There is no excuse for not trying to get in contact before a certified letter of this nature. When calling, Krissy said that the letter had been sent in August. (that is verified by the post mark), HOWEVER, when they didn't hear back from us (because we NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING!), the logical thing would have been to CALL US!!
I have never been flat out lied to by an office like this and then had the office refuse to even ATTEMPT a resolution - instead leaving me no choice but to call corporate.
If you choose to move here, watch for MOLD, the flooding and get EVERYTHING in WRITING - (and i mean EVERYTHING). (and if you move on the lake side, tell the ducks I miss them!) :)
